Show Notes

In this episode of The Wandering DP Podcast we sit down with cinematographer Chayse Irvin.  Chayse is very experienced as a DP and he has shot tons of different formats and projects.  I love his style across the board and he has been a big influence on what I look to do on my own projects.

Chayse shared so much that I had to break this episode in to two separate pieces.  You can catch Part 2 with Chayse in next week’s episode.

I couldn’t bare the thought of cutting any of it out as I know a lot of you out there are interested in hearing how he works and Chayse went in to great detail so I wanted to make sure it all got out into the world.

What You’ll Hear in this Episode:

Pre-Viz.  Yea I said it.  I am a convert.  Thanks to DP Matt Workman my eyes have been opened to the creative possibilities that pre-viz can offer to a DP working on the level of projects I am working on day in and day out.  Matt is an accomplished DP working out of New York and he is also a very talented pre-viz artist.

I had him on the podcast to do an episode on pre-viz and it’s place in the commercial world now and he blew my mind.  I have been hooked ever since.  We are going to be sharing that episode with you in the weeks to come but I just wanted to get the word out there now on Pre-viz and Matt’s work because if you guys aren’t getting on board with this stuff now you may be falling behind without even knowing it.

Style Uncovered

How does a DP find their style?  What are some ways you can preform more effeciently as an artist?

In this week’s Style Uncovered I go over a few tips to help you get mentally focused on the task at hand.

I am sure a lot of this stuff is second nature to some DPs out there but if you are just starting out you can hear what you can do to help push your art to the next level with a little bit of planning.

Capturing Better Images:

In this week’s Capturing Better Images we talk about using a Light Meter with today’s modern digital cinema cameras.

There are lots of different opinions on using light meters vs. various other exposure tools now available to DPs and I expand on my own system for working in the digital age.
