Learan talks us through his latest work with director Kevin Smith on his film Clerk 3 as well as his latest in the network television and episodic worlds.

It was great hearing about the process behind switching from larger budgets to more constrained projects and what carries over and what doesn't.

Understanding how to get the most out of every project, big or small, is one of the main challenges for a DP and Learan's experience is a valuable learning opportunity for DPs of all levels.

A Cinematography Course: The Playbook System

I told you a new course was coming and it's finally here.

It has been awesome hearing feedback from everyone that has already sped through the content and I am excited it has been as well received as it has.

In the new course I introduce my method for approaching cinematography from the most basic level and lay out each decision along the way. When I think about the work I break every possible scenario into one of 5 buckets and go from there.

Doing so allows me to focus more time on what I can do and less on what is not as effective. In this latest course we go over one of these 5 scenarios and I explain how I use a system to allow me to deliver the best results.

I don't have many go to films but certainly the original Matrix is up there for me.

We have broken that film down before on the Patreon Breakdown and this week we take the opportunity to look at the latest version with The Matrix Resurrections.

New DP, new technology, new everything really.

It was fun to see how the film's style has evolved and what got carried over from the original.
