In this episode of The Wandering DP Podcast we continue our break down of a recent commercial I shot on the RED Dragon paired with Arri Zeiss Super Speeds.
This commercial was unique in that we were limited to house power for our lighting set ups which means we had to choose our angles and locations wisely.
Below are images of the lighting set ups discussed in this podcast along with the images that coincide with the diagrams.
The Apartment
Time of Day: 11:00AM
Keys to Success: As with the last two examples in this shot we needed the sun to be at a certain angle to get any light coming through the window. After scouting it we decided that mid morning would give the best chance of getting some light coming through and we could fill in the rest.
This was the hardest set up for the shoot as I don’t like the look of lighting something from inside the room that the subject is in. I’d much rather put one big source out the window and then add some little accents inside. Unfortunately that wasn’t going to be possible with the gear we had.
